Oncologic Surgery
Cancer is perhaps the most heartbreaking and devastating disease we treat in veterinary medicine. Though we typically see it in our geriatric pets, it can occur at almost any age. It can occur anywhere in the body and often goes unnoticed initially because of its insidious nature. Though we can rarely cure cancer, medical advancements have made treatment more effective. Using multiple modalities such as surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, we can improve your pet’s quality of life and maintain that quality of life over longer periods of time.
In some instances, surgery is the best treatment option and the starting point for treatment. Proper surgical planning can maximize the effects of removal and minimize the potential for re-growth, which also makes controlling the spread of the tumor more effective. We attempt to work as closely as possible with an oncologist to give you the information you need about treatment options, the success rates and side effects for those treatments.
