Allergy testing and treatment
Allergy testing with immunotherapy is a practical and successful way to manage moderate to severe inhalant allergic dermatitis in dogs and cats (similar to hay fever in people).
Our Boarded Dermatologist will guide you through the steps of allergy testing and treatment beginning with a consultation and complete examination of your pet.
If the doctor suspects that your pet has inhalant allergies then he will discuss intradermal allergy testing.
Intradermal skin testing is considered the "Gold Standard" for the diagnosis of inhalant allergies and provides the most accurate results.
Almost identical to human testing, it consists of a series of very small injections of common allergens into the layers of the skin. The skin is then monitored to see how it reacts to each separate allergen. This reveals which substances trigger a patient’s allergies. Based on the test results, we will develop a customized hyposensitization program for your pet. This therapy aims to desensitize your pet to their specific allergens. Hyposensitization is the safest allergy treatment and involves no drugs.
We prepare your pet's hyposensitization (allergy) injections here in our building and work closely with you as you begin immunotherapy with your pet. Depending on your preference, we will get you started on the traditional path of induction at home, or you can choose Rush Immuneotherapy.
