Oral tumors Many pets with oral tumors can be successfully treated surgically and lead a very normal life afterward. A benefit of treating these patients by a specialist in dentistry and oral surgery is the emphasis placed on post-operative function of the oral cavity. For example, after mandibulectomy, lateral jaw drift is possible, resulting in an extremely painful malocclusion. With a working knowledge of dental anatomy and physiology, this can be alleviated.
